Eunkyung Chang(b.1946) unravels traditional Korean paintings in a modern and unique perspective. His works are on the cycle of lives of unspoiled nature and seek fundamental and primitive purity. The lives circulate with the cosmic order in a more fundamental form through time, space, and traces. The existence of infinite and finite time and space is expressed with symbolic images on canvas. His works, in general, divide the screen into two and made by completely different properties, just as yin and yang. It is proved as using different materials such as oriental ink and acrylic paint, Korean paper and western canvas in a single art work. In addition, not only the rough painting that deals with the original aspects of life, but also dense sculptures based on time and space are placed. Things of completely different characteristics are naturally fused on one screen.
He was born in one of the prestigious painter family in Korea. Was influenced greatly from his Uncle, who is the most reknowned oriental painter in Korea. From his family root, his artworks are based on oriental painting and gradually developed into embracing western and modern art. His fame is gained by representing Korean artists in overseas exhibitions targeting art exchange between nations. Held more than 20 times of solo and 250 times of group exhibitions in Korea and overseas.
He served key position of Korea Art Associations and contributed in building foundation of Korean artworks and committed in growing young artist in Korea.
